An animated version of the Bayeux Tapestry, which tells the story of the Norman invasion of England in 1066. Wikipedia has more info on the tapestry and VSL has more on the video.
I suppose I am contractually obligated to tell you that Malcolm Gladwell was on the Colbert Report the other night.
The White Glove Tracking site needs your help in finding Michael Jackson’s white glove in all 10,060 frames of Jackson’s performance of Billy Jean. “Rather then write unnecessarily complex code to find the glove in every frame of the video I am asking for the assistance of 10,060 individual internet users to simply click and drag a box around the glove in one frame.” Don’t stop ‘til you get enough (white gloves located).
Timelapse of a boat going through the Panama Canal. How the boat moves reminds me of Doom or Quake. This couple’s vacation write-up includes a trip through the canal. “The never to be forgotten trip lasted ten hours and cost Princess Cruise Lines more than $150,000 in tolls.”
Noah Kalina is selling signed and numbered prints of individual frames of his seminal everyday movie.
Video of Rodrigo y Gabriela performing at PopTech. Here’s my writeup from October. What isn’t apparent from the video (at least through my puny laptop speakers) is how loud the bass was from them thumping their guitars.
Sean Penn and Stephen Colbert competing in a metaphor competition:
Good lord that’s funny.
Video of a two-song Arcade Fire show, one of which is sung in a freight elevator and the other in the middle of a Parisian crowd through a megaphone.
Video demonstration and explanation of the Kaye effect. AKA, watch shampoo do weird things in slow motion.
Video of two peacekeeping poultry breaking up a fight between two rabbits. Not animated. (via cyn-c)
Amusing Super Mario Bros mod. Like the post says, the invisible coin blocks are surprisingly funny. (via waxy)
PopTech is releasing video of some of the talks from their conference. Among the first batch, I’d recommend Thomas Barnett, Juan Enriquez, Erin McKean, and Theo Jansen.
The New Yorker reports on the history and philosophy of the urban sport of parkour. David Belle, the inventor of parkour and the main subject of the article, demonstrates his sport in this 11-minute video. Lots more videos of parkour are available.
This is brilliant: the weird video of Dick Cheney lurking in the bushes during a press conference at the White House with Radiohead’s Creep playing over it. “I want you to notice when I’m not around….” (via cyn-c)
I love YouTube. This is a video clip of a chef pulling noodle dough, doubling it over 12 times until the noodles are unbelievably fine. The clip is from a 1987 PBS science show that I watched once when I was 14[1] and I’ve remembered it ever since as one of the simplest, coolest, and most concrete illustrations of mathematics I’ve ever seen. (via seriouseats)
[1] Ooh, watching science shows on PBS at 14….how popular was I in school?
Rollercoaster version of the graph of US home prices adjusted for inflation…you basically ride the curve of the graph. Brilliant…I want to ride all the graphs I come across! (via is it real or is it magnetbox)
Photojojo celebrates its first birthday with a tutorial on how to make video panoramas. The end result is pretty cool.
Time lapse video of someone painting the Mona Lisa in MS Paint.
A video of NYC graffiti artist Revs as he puts one of his sculptures up in the city. Rare footage indeed. “I’m into the individual spirit, anybody who does things in a solo way. Ted Kaczynski, Mother Theresa, Jesus Christ, dudes who were just out on a mission, solo.” (thx, david)
Intro for Voyagers, a TV show from the 80s about time-travelling do-gooders. I loved this show when I was a kid, but it seems to have not aged well. (via cyn-c)
Fascinating clip from the This American Life TV show about some grade school kids who became obsessed with using fake video cameras. Animated by Chris Ware. The thing is though, I remember fights in grade school and even in the absence of fake video cameras, students didn’t step in to stop fights. (thx, matt)
50 50 is a compilation of 50 videos of people singing 50 Cent songs.

Final episode of The Show with Ze Frank. No, thank you, Ze….the pleasure was all ours.
As this video demonstrates, an 8.5x11 piece of paper can be folded into a beer bottle opener. (via clusterflock)
Video of a live performance of Creep by a Radiohead quite different than today’s version.
A dad sings NWA’s Fuck The Police to his young son using some creative realtime censorship. “‘Cause he’ll tickle you ‘til you’re giggling.” (via the grumpiest)
4-hour BBC documentary on how to be a gardener. I only watched the first few minutes, but it seems promising. (thx, avi)
