Excessive advertising & promotion makes everything about products, services, events, movies, songs, and companies irrelevant except for the fact that it is being advertised and promoted in an excessive manner.
0sil8 appeared on Netscape's What's New page today. That's kind of odd considering 0sil8 has been around since May 1996. Good review, though.
I just realized my Web site isn't Y2K compliant. For instance, the directory that the notes episode resides in is "episodes/98/03/14"....it should be "episodes/1998/03/14". Shame on me. I'm gonna be in trouble when 2098 rolls around. Hopefully, I will have run out of things to talk about by then.
New episode of 0sil8 today. Go submit your movie reviews and I'll post them in an upcoming episode.
Flash is fun. And easy. And powerful. Surprisingly, Gabocorp wouldn't be all that hard to do. And do better.
I don't like feeling obligated to purchase gifts for friends and family just because it's the custom around the holiday time. If I want to get someone a gift, I'll get them one when I damn well please. And if you're shopping for me, you really should direct your energy somewhere else. Exchanging gifts is even worse...should someone get mad because they didn't get a gift in return for theirs? What kinda crap is that?
Somebody please help me! I'm addicted to Ebay! And exclamation points!
Have you ever had that feeling that you're at peak mental performance? Your thinking is clear, concise, and accurate...you can do no wrong? I had that feeling about 7 months ago...and then I lost it. My thinking has been muddled of late. I have trouble organizing my thoughts...good ideas come hard these days.
But as I think about it, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Being a little muddled makes me work harder. It doesn't allow me to get complacent. Hopefully, after a while, some good ideas will pop out of the fog.
P.S. Alt Text has some good stuff.
I got my first ever case of frostbite this morning, and let me tell you...it's not a lot of fun. It happened when I was out in the frozen tundra this morning putting anti-freeze in Nichol's car. In my rush to get the both of us to work in a timely fashion, I didn't put on my gloves - even though it was about minus 10 degrees F this morning - and my thumb got all numb...and not in a good way either. It's just now thawing out, four hours later...most of the feeling is back, and it hasn't turned any funny colors.
Which is good.
Idea for a web site: a multi-user, multi-threaded journal (think of it like this: a journal like 0sil8.notes + a multi-threaded discussion system). All participating users each write their own journal entries, but they can also respond to other people's entries. Take 0sil8.notes for example...it would still look and work basically the same, but other participating journalers could respond to or elaborate upon my entries, and vice versa. Visitors to my site would initially see only my journal, but they could quickly find themselves reading journals written by other people. Hopefully, the result will be a community journal of sorts.
I wonder how George Lucas got away with having the same plot for both Star Wars and the Return of the Jedi. There's a Death Star that's threatening the entire galaxy. The rebels send in some small ships to target a weak point, blow it up, and save the galaxy from the dreaded Empire. They do the same thing twice. Why haven't I heard anyone complain about this before?
I'm sitting here with my display stuck at 800x600 with 16 colors. Win NT and my 3DFX Voodoo graphics card do not want to get along.
No graphic design for Jason today.
I've got a new idea for a web site. Actually, it's really a variation on an old theme, but it won't be a part of 0sil8. I'm going to become one of those people with multiple concurrently updated personal web projects.
I also started working on a new episode of 0sil8 last night. Unfortunately, I didn't get too far before I scrapped the whole idea. I've never done that before. Usually, I muddle through until something halfway decent pops out. Not this time. The question is: am I getting smarter about choosing projects or just impatient and lazy?
Fuck all the politicians in Washington and their partisan politics.
That's all I've got to say about that.
It's OK to like Vanilla Ice.
It's OK to eat bologna.
It's OK to acknowledge your past.
It's OK to use Microsoft products.
Isn't it?
"AOL Drops Backing From Film For Lack of Product Placement!" is playing over at the Drudge Retort. It's about that film "You've Got Mail". I love writing fake press releases and news articles.
An interesting thought, courtesy of PeterMe: Why does time start at 12? Shouldn't it start at 0? 0 o'clock, 1 o'clock, etc. instead of 12 o'clock, 1 o'clock, etc.
It's a similar problem to the first year's start date...it started at year 1 instead of year 0. Except that years don't loop back on themselves as hours do, so instead of 1=0 when dealing with years, 12=0 when dealing with time. Weird.
My first day at work today. Woo. No computer yet, but I hope to have one in the next day or two. Everyone seems pretty cool. I haven't determined yet if it's going to be really intimidating working with actual designers or really fun and educational.
Jason is gainfully employed again. After 4 months of contracting and sitting around on my ass, I finally found a full-time job. I'm going to be a Web designer at a small ad firm in Mpls. called Kuester Partners. I'm pretty excited...it should be fun and challenging and all that good stuff. Wish me luck.
