Artist and illustrator Andrew DeGraff makes maps that show where the characters travel during movies — imagine Billy’s trail maps from Family Circus but for films like Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Pulp Fiction, and Mad Max: Fury Road.

DeGraff collected these maps into a book called Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies.

These are a lovely elaboration of this XKCD idea. That comic came out in 2009, this book came out in 2017. The Explain XKCD on that strip also points back to the truly classic Napoleon's March by Minard in 1869 as further inspiration.

This is glorious! It's a fun way to think of how movies move. I always hear director's talk about how cities are characters in their films, but this makes that idea feel a bit more true.

I'd to see it for Ferris Bueller or even Harry Potter.

These are so good!

FWIW, years ago I saved this sketch of the places/plot of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." I cannot find it again with DDG, so I cannot 100% attest that it's by Gondry himself, but I have always believed that he drew it.
