Openish Thread (Testing a New Feature…)

Hey all. It’s Sunday afternoon of a holiday weekend and the weather is glorious here, so what better (worse) time to unleash a new feature on KDO? I’ve been working on a new wysiwyg comment editor for the past few days and it’s finally ready to go. Asking you folks to deal with HTML while leaving a comment was always a bit of a kludge, but now you can include links, blockquoted text, lists, and bold/italic text formatting in your comments and know exactly what it’s going to look like before posting.

You can try it out by sharing something worthwhile you’ve seen, heard, or learned recently. Feedback and bug reports welcome!!

I love this Instagram post about a woman who went to a World Cup watch party in Oakland for a Cape Verde match. 30 years ago, she'd spent two years on Cape Verde teaching English to teenagers.

And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say, "You were my teacher."

Small bug report: using cmd + B/cmd + I seems like it can get into a weird state where it cannot "unapply" the formatting (at least in the display; not sure how the content ultimately gets displayed).

Very cool to see this, though. Love how simple and clear the interactions are.

Maybe everyone knows about this already, but I've recently rediscovered Infinite Mac and it's so much fun. A nice reminder that computers don't have to be evil. (Also: here in Firefox on dark mode, I can't see the hyperlink because it's the same color as the background! If I highlight it, I can see it.)

I stayed as a guest in someone’s home recently and they had this tissue dispenser in their bathroom. Somehow I’ve gone my entire life without seeing this style tissue dispenser. Now I’m browsing various designs I had never considered for dispensing tissues. [styling buttons and keyboard shortcuts work for me!]
