I love this Instagram post about a woman who went to a World Cup watch party in Oakland for a Cape Verde match. 30 years ago, she'd spent two years on Cape Verde teaching English to teenagers.

And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say, "You were my teacher."

Small bug report: using cmd + B/cmd + I seems like it can get into a weird state where it cannot "unapply" the formatting (at least in the display; not sure how the content ultimately gets displayed).

Maybe everyone knows about this already, but I've recently rediscovered Infinite Mac and it's so much fun. A nice reminder that computers don't have to be evil. (Also: here in Firefox on dark mode, I can't see the hyperlink because it's the same color as the background! If I highlight it, I can see it.)

I stayed as a guest in someone’s home recently and they had this tissue dispenser in their bathroom. Somehow I’ve gone my entire life without seeing this style tissue dispenser. Now I’m browsing various designs I had never considered for dispensing tissues. [styling buttons and keyboard shortcuts work for me!]

Oh and I forgot to add: draft comment text is saved automagically if you accidentally close the comment editor. Works for replies too.

When making text bold, (at least in safari), if I select it after the fact and bold it it's fine. but I can't type command-B and keep typing (which I don't really care about), and if I highlight the most recent word and bold it with command B, there's no way to stop the bold text. command-b by itself does nothing. selecting everything but the word I want bold unbolds everything, including the word I want bold. the only way to actually bold a word is to go back and do it later.
Also, I just noticed if you're typing bold text and autocorrect replaces a mistyped word, that replaced word won't be bold, but everything around it will.

I recently went to London and took a day trip to Paris. It was as hot as the devils anus. So we stepped into one of Paris' many beautiful (and air conned) museums. I’m a big video game nerd. Lo and behold they had this one week exhibition happening whilst I was there. It was a nice bit of kismet. 

We’re leaving tomorrow on a road trip through Michigan! MSP to the UP, then down along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, including a stop to do a triathlon and check off my 3rd Great Lake swim. Then stopping in Chicago on the way home, which initially I was resistant to but after a visit w/o my kid I figured yes, my kid should see the biggest city she’s seen.

I am testing this new wysiwig editor and I can't seem to turn bold on/off using Ctrl-B unless I highlight the text and then press the "button". Same problem with italics.  I'm one of those keyboard shortcuts guys since I learned keyboards on an IBM card reader and an IBM 327x terminal.   

Does, or will, this editor also support Markdown eventually?

Environment is Windows 10, Firefox 152.0.4.

I recently watched The Straight Story and enjoyed it. 

Just back from Traditional Jazz Camp (for grownups!) In New Orleans. We got to play at Preservation hall and have our own parade (Back Line). Great people. Good fun. Learned a LOT of music. 

So here I am, drinking coffee in the morning when I find the following:

1. KDO has a task for us readers;
2. The weather continues to be extreme here in coastal Virginia;
3. I can't think of a third thing.

So in pursuit of a third thing I think I'll make a bulleted list:

• I'll try ITALIC - which I have discovered I can't turn off
• I'll try BOLD - which I have discovered I can't turn off

Today I learned about Garry Davis through a 99PI podcast:

I made a rant on Threads about the DoD logo from the technical specification for aircraft AC generators. It's got everything:

• Bad kerning 
• Websafe colors
• Hand drawn eagle

(This editor is near, but can you put a toggle for the HTML editor, I enjoyed writing directly in HTML like it was 1995)

Ok, I fixed the bug where if you bolded or italicized a word at the end of line, like this, pressing the right arrow will undo the formatting. (Links work like this too.) The bold/italics stuff might need a little more tweaking...gonna let it simmer for a bit.

The comment editor is meant to be small (in scope and in file size) and opinionated (no HTML or Markdown editing), so covering every way that different people like to edit text just isn't going to happen — this isn't Google Docs and thank goodness for that. Generally, the KDO comment editor works best if you type the text first and format after. 🤷‍♂️ There are definitely ways to make the formatting break — particularly if you're testing/debugging like in this thread — but covering every single possible edge case isn't worth the effort or the code.

Took my kid to a very granola summer camp in New Hampshire. She slept in an earthen, Hobbit-esque dwelling, learned to pee in the woods, make fire, chop wood, and carve a spoon. She came back covered in bug bites and she loved every minute. 

I just saw Maddie’s Secret on Friday and it’s an oddball delight. It’s more comedy than drama, but its ability to defy categorization makes it all the more fun.

Maybe it’s like if Wet Hot American Summer took itself 50% more seriously.
