Africa (Toto) But It Lists Every Country in Africa

From There I Ruined It, a version of Toto’s Africa but the lyrics are a listing of every country in Africa. They should teach this in American middle schools, not even joking.

See also Coach from Cheers singing Al-ban-i-a (a song that pops into my head every time I read or hear about that county):

This is incredible.

Excellent stuff. Reminds me of that classic Animaniacs tune, "Yakko's World" where Yakko sings the countries of the world (at the time).

Any LearnedLeague folks here? Pop music is one my weakest categories, and so I sure wish this had been posted a couple days earlier! (There was a trivia question yesterday that required knowledge of Toto's "Africa" to get to the answer...)

I got that one right and I felt so pleased with myself.

I used to teach at an independent school where Africa was the central subject around which the sixth grade curriculum revolved. This included studying for and having to get 100% (location and spelling) on a map test of the entire continent. And I found that the best way to help kids learn the countries (which we'd do in geographic batches) was to re-write pop songs. I was especially proud of my tour through West Africa, written to the tune of "Marry You," by Bruno Mars.

I have a low-key goal to know the countries of Africa better. This would be great with a map of Africa that highlights the countries as they are named. It would certainly help out my YouDontKnowAfrica score. https://youdontknowafrica.com/
