Super cool photos from this story about a nuclear-powered submarine. Interesting detail: “Day 31 is sometimes the lowest morale day while underway. App downloads expire: Spotify, Netflix, etc.”

Nice article - brings me back to my Navy days. I was on USS San Juan in 1993 when we did our under-ice deployment. The thing I’ll never forget about getting out and walking around on the ice - the quiet. No cars, no birds, no machinery, no wind in the trees. Just quiet, footsteps crunching on the ice.

If you’re interested in more nuclear submarine stuff, I’d recommend this series from Smarter Every Day.

My father worked on submarines in the late 50s/early 60s. I was surprised at how similar the descriptions of everyday life mirror his memories. Except his recollections include lots of smoking.
