I figured it out like this:
1. I bought it in Mexico, on a beach, from a guy carrying around a box of them, for six dollars.
2. The second hand fell off, and now rattles around under the crystal.
I didn't need any special information to come to my conclusion. On the bright side, the watch still works after ten years.

I live in Sri Lanka, and as you can imagine, a lot of the stuff we get here is fake. Usually, isn't it possible to tell a fake Rolex by the price alone? Maybe that's just in the sub continent though. :)

Real Rolex watches cost at least $20, so if you paid less than that you probably have a fake.

Its not easy, there are $5-$50 fakes you could buy out in the streets of New York City. And there are also couple of hundred dollar replicas, and how to tell from the 5-50 dollar ones is by the quality, the fake ones are usually very bad. And for the replicas, its almost impossible to tell...

Response to Chaz Milli-Vanilli, real rolex watches go for thousands and even ten thousands, not 20 bux

yeah um whoever said real rolexs are $20 theyre not theyre r thounsands of dollars
I own 2 rolexs (a submariner and an explorer 2 - all real) and the cheapest is $6'000USD so if u pay less than 3 grand the chances are its fake. Telling the difference depends on weather it is a good or bad fake i suppose. If the second hand (or other pieces) falls off its a bad fake. My submarniner was my dads 21st birthday present and that was 37 years ago and it still keeps times perfectly except i had to get the pearl replaecd a few months ago and that is the point of geting a real one.

I found a clone I think. The back of the Daytona watch says Rolex24 winner. Is this real or a fake?
Feb 10, 2004 at 2:02PM
Dude, that is so not true... I own a real Yacht Master that I bought for $2,000USD, it's not gold, or white gorl or platinum. It is a steel, rotating bezel, authentic Rolex... the cheapest I have actually seen was around $1,500USD... and it was not a fake considering it was selling in a Rolex store...

Mike, unfortunaetly to tell you, your rolex is fake, real rolexes on the back does not have any engravings on it, its either flat with nothing at all on it, or a green holographic sticker telling the model of the watch. Also rolexes that the back is clear, are fake

If it's that hard to tell the difference, why bother getting a geniuine Rolex?
