The world's tallest slum  SARAH PAVIS  ·  AUG 07 2013

Abandoned halfway through construction, this 45 story tower in Caracas has become the world's tallest slum. Ramón Iriarte of Vocativ visited recently and filmed the conditions.

You may have heard of Kowloon Walled City, the unregulated city block inside of Hong Kong, China. It was torn down and made into a park the '90s. The Tower of David in Caracas, Venezuela is still standing and occupied today. According to the residents of the tower, there's not more crime there than in the rest of the city. And residents actually pool money to keep essential services going in much the same way a condo board does.
