Discovering her and her writing, and the Ms. Foundation for Women in college completely transformed my life, and how I thought of myself and my possibilities as a woman. I can't think of any cultural figure who shaped my personal identity more. Maybe bell hooks. Gloria Steinem unraveled for me and countless others the toxic idea that a woman looks most beautiful hanging off a man's arm. She was sublime. RIP.
Well shit. This is a truly awful two weeks for feminist icons (and all of us they left behind).

Beautiful, thank you for sharing that piece. I so appreciate the *expansive* definition of feminism that Steinem described, even more interestingly in spite of Dolly Parton reliably denying the "feminist" descriptor. The piece reads with great affection.
Parton, Steinem, and now Morgan. That's enough loss of influential, powerful women to cover us for a good while.
