This really makes me want to start skateboarding at my local Costco! Those sound like my people!

I've recently come into possession of a somewhat water-damaged copy of A history of the decline and fall of the industrial empires, by Sericus Bunopithecus: a third edition published in 2632.  Here is a rather bad translation of a paragraph from the introduction which I think is interesting.

Today's readers will perhaps be surprised to learn of the importance in the final stages of the collapse of a device called, variously, the 'cellphone', the 'iphone' , or just the 'phone'. Insofar as these are now remembered at all – no known examples survive – they are remembered as the tools which documented by far the most culturally significant activity in the late empire: skateboarding. Indeed, many, including the author of this work, believe that skateboarding was the only significant creation of the late empire.
