Huh, some ... interesting choices were made. I did not get Taika Waititi vibes from the book. Probably gonna be some very cranky fans.
OTOH, I thought the book was kind of dry, so maybe making it goofy will be an improvement?
To say this is not the movie adaptation I was expecting would be a huge understatement!
Loved the book--might need to read it again before the movie comes out.
I'll be particularly interested to see what they do with the ending.
The book had a profound effect on me. I read it slowly so as to not miss anything, and at the end I honestly felt like I was a better human being.
I adore Taika, and was surprised at first, but then I remembered some of the scenes in Jojo Rabbit, especially the rooflines of the houses, and I thought, “Sure. You’ve earned this one. I’ll be there on opening night.”
Let me start by saying that I loved the book. Kazuo Ishiguro's voice has a particular tone that made an impression on me. It has a sort of contemplative nature. So when I heard that Taika Waititi has helmed a movie of Klara and the Sun, I was surprised. Ishiguro and Waititi are each singular in their own ways.
But I trust Taika. And his movie will be different from the way I pictured the book when I read it. But that's okay. I can enjoy both for what they are.
