I keep feeling like all of these fascist anti-democratic things that are happening are the last desperate gasp of something that's so unpopular that it will not be able to bounce back once the dam breaks.

It's very frustrating before it happens, but if we all keep pushing on the dam, it's inevitable. It won't happen cleanly, and many people will be hurt in the process, but you can't prevent it from happening.

The only thing they can do is delay and over-extend and double down on bets that won't continue to pay off in the long term, even if they do in the short term.
