Perhaps businesses are collecting too much data for their own good. “Each morning at 10am, I get an email from Caroline in the finance team showing the cash we have in the bank compared with the same day last year. This fact offers no hiding place.”

Man, this resonated with me. During my career I experienced both clients and employers increasingly focused on harvesting more and more data w/o having a plan for what they wanted to do with it, or even an understanding of what they could do with it. They’d see it as a potential future resource, but instead it quickly became a burden, and usually an expensive burden.
