I had somehow missed (or forgotten) that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, one of The Chronicles of Narnia books by C.S. Lewis. Filming has wrapped and it’s out in theaters on Nov 26.

I really hope they do justice to the scene where Jadis visits Victorian London and drives a hackey cab like a chariot through the streets. I love that part, and the imagery of Jadis on her dead planet with its red giant sun.

I was very excited about Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia, but I'm just now learning that the first movie is The Magician's Nephew! Haven't read it since some time in my youth, but it was maybe my first exposure to a twist ending. I remember the feeling of elation when it connected back to The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (no spoilers here).

I can't wait for this and am excited to take my nephews! I loved Little Women deeply and Ladybird too, and had a great time with Barbie. Go Greta go!

Her interviews are also excellent. I like her spirit. Just a week ago, I was listening to her episode with Samantha Bee where she was talking about a Quaker writer that she liked. This writer talked about the idea of quieting yourself, ostensibly to let god or the universe speak to you. (Her Desert Island Discs episode is also terrific.)

I feel like so much of life is about being fully yourself, whatever that is. And I've really come to admire her approach of connecting with her small (and at times big) universe and trying to keep symbiosis. I've also been watching a lot of Benny Blanco interviews and enjoyed them similarly, especially the ones where he talks about music production. Whatever Greta and Benny are, it seems to me like they are trying to be it fully and I really admire that. They seem like good, positive social contagions – and I hope to be the same.
