We’re expected to believe that the NY Times is a serious newspaper when they are sending a reporter to talk to dozens of ppl to debunk a claim from a known conspiracy theorist, fascist, and grifter that he’d teleported into a Waffle House?!?

If Phillips had said he'd jumped into space, bounced off Jupiter, and had tea on the surface of the Sun, would the Times be sending reporters out to observatories to interview astronomers if they'd seen him in any of their telescopes? (I think they actually would!)

The story here is simple: a powerful person in the US government said something obviously completely untrue. And as we've seen repeatedly, the NY Times lacks the ability to clearly state the truth in such cases. Instead, we get a "and finally, a story about the lighter side of fascism..." piece that is almost a parody of the Times' both-sidesing of the incompetent people running the country.

Gah why do I care so much about this stupid thing? It's Friday, I'm sick, I'm not even supposed to be working. The Times still does some great reporting and has some great contributors, but this kind of thing drives me up the wall. I just want them to be better.
