I think those of us that grew up on garbage 80's movies could be forgiven for assuming a scenario where this mother didnt know there was a twin and thought she was having sex with the same guy

I do love a horny science headline. There’s a pretty good chance they could figure this out with “ultra-deep genome sequencing” which is expensive but looks for rare mutations. A twin pair will have somewhere between dozens and hundreds of single base-pair differences in their genomes. They actually did this in a very similar case in 2019 in Brazil and identified the father.
