The James Joyce quote reminds me of how Garbage Day ends each of their newsletters:

One of my faves is from a 1944 printing of the King James Bible: "For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their owl husbands."
Knowing their husbands were owls, I really wonder how the women adorned themselves.
