I lived on W. 69th Street when You've Got Mail was being filmed. The Little Shop Around the Corner was actually Maya Schaper Cheese & Antiques, which as the name says, sold cheese and antiques selected by the owner, Maya Schaper. https://archive.nytimes.com/cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/10/cheese-and-antiques-shop-to-close-doors/
Fun Fact - the scenes filmed outside on that block when it's fall, it wasn't. They twisty-tied fake fall foliage to all the trees on the block to make it look like fall.
@TLD, thank you for sharing that!
I love the image of twist-tied leaves.
And, in the the article you shared, it's amazing how the comment section sounds like characters from You've Got Mail. Perfect. 🎯
$11000 a month for rent in 2008? That's insane.
I’m working on making my Little Free Library You’ve Got Mail themed. The front will look like the facade of The Shop Around the Corner.
I don't know how I hope to see an update of this in the future, but I do!
Have you seen this lovely Nerdwriter video? It's a fun breakdown between both films that really emphasizes how the practical aspects of shooting a scene between two characters has changed with time.
This is amazing and I really want to see it!!
When you get around to reading and posting about Paul Kingsnorth - Against the Machine: On the Unmaking of Humanity -- make sure to keep this line in your back pocket.
I like the ideas behind the site, but I can't quite figure out how to "discover" cool stuff with it. Am I searching for the wrong sort of things? Does anyone here use it?
