An oddly fascinating video on the Barney Google comic strip, which began in 1919 and is somehow still running (it’s called Snuffy Smith now). Interesting how art forms shift through innovation and evolution with society at large.

The original cartoonist made the equivalent of millions of dollars a year in today’s money! Bud Fisher (Mutt and Jeff) made about $250,000 in 1927. During a divorce proceeding, the judge said, "I do not see how anybody can pay money for that nonsense." That's about $4 million a year today.

I forwarded this link to Josh Fruhlinger, the Comics Curmudgeon, who is one of maybe a few dozen people that reads this strip every day. (Quick acknowledgment from him that was new and interesting.)
