I discovered this site earlier this year and it’s helped me see some incredible sunrises and sunsets. It’s so good.
It answers that one question I always have: where can I go nearby to see a great sunrise?
You might be interested in SunsetWX, which provides daily sunrise & sunset forecast maps for the US and worldwide ("a better sunset is denoted by warmer colors").
Just moved to Northern New Mexico and I have literally been dreaming about finding exactly this. Incredibly helpful to know which trails etc are shaded and when. TY!
Side note, any Kottke fans in/around Taos?
I ran across Shadowmap, which seems to provide a ton of tools and resources around shadows; they call it "solar intelligence". (You never really think about how important shadows are, but they can be critical for architecture, energy considerations, etc., e.g. eaves on houses are designed so they block much of the intense summer sun from streaming in through windows but let in the sun to help heat the house and provide necessary light in the winter.)
