Yoyo Elevated to Performance Art

As an occasional yoyo-er, I’ve watched a fair amount of yoyo routines, but this championship-winning routine by 8-time world champ Hajime Miura is the best one I’ve ever seen. Miura’s routine falls somewhere on the spectrum between magical illusion & performance art; even the music is perfect. The result is mesmerizing. (via the kid should see this)

The crowd reaction (or sometimes non-reaction) is the best part. There are tricks that look crazy amazing to me as a layperson and yet there's no reaction at all, and tricks that don't seem that interesting get oohs and aahs from people who know how difficult they are to pull off.

Somehow my brain put froyo in place of yoyo in the title and for a brief moment I wondered what froyo performance art might be, and I was so excited to find out that the yoyo routine, while, yes, mesmerizing, felt a little anticlimactic. And I don't really even care for froyo!

If I ever run across a video that elevates froyo to performance art, you will be the first to know.

I'd love to see K-Strass at this event.
