Me: Man, I hope Daft Punk is back for the soundtrack.
NIN: Hold my drink.
I'll be there just for the two hour NIN music video.
I want a TRON moive to make me feel like I did when I was about eight or nine years old and saw the first TRON for the first time, and I genuinely felt like I was seeing the future or something. It influenced my thinking and art for years, probably for a lifetime. It invaded my dreams.
I don't know if a new TRON movie can ever do that again, but I at least hope this one is good.
You'll never be eight or nine years old again, is the real problem. But film does still have its moments. I remember seeing Inception for the first time and wishing I could see it for the first time again.
Sometimes I hate being the way I am, but I can't enjoy a Jared Leto movie. Why this guy hasn't been cancelled in the age of constant cancellation is truly beyond me. I love the original Tron, and liked the second one despite Creepy Corpse Jeff Bridges. I would love for this to be good, as the production looks amazing. But, no thanks to Jared Leto.
While often trying to separate the art from the artist, it is exceedingly difficult to do in practice. Some things are simply impossible to unknow. (File under: ignorance truly is bliss.)
Jared Leto has got to have dirt on everybody in Hollywood, that's the only explanation.
Also I'm a strong defender of Creepy CGI Jeff Bridges in "Tron Legacy." That's EXACTLY what a digital clone would look like in the Tron world—the uncanny valley is a feature, not a bug.
Sorry, I don't think it can. High octane testoterone mixed with high tech histrionics, seldom create poetry.
This is true. The impetus of the first Tron was, "what if we could make a different kind of movie that no one has seen before?" Whereas the question with franchise properties is always, "how can we leverage this IP to maximize value?"
You know what I’m excited about? GRETA LEE is in this movie. She has clawed and battled her way through the film industry, brilliant from the very start as “Homeless Heidi” in the original web series of High Maintenance (pre-HBO), up through the Oscar-nominated gem “Past Lives”, and now is staring in awe at a huge floating red neon Tron shape as NIN blasts away.
So for me, part of the “Can we please have nice things” entreaty is, “Can the filmmakers and Disney let Greta Lee be her spectacular, brainy, arch, hilarious self in this movie?” Or has she been relegated to, “Random Asian woman stares up at Godzilla (or other large scary thing) before it squashes her”? Because right now all we’re getting of her is the latter. Fingers crossed.
