We've got a friend who teaches kids with severe mental health and behavioural issues and he says "better a broken bone than a broken soul".
My kids were all encouraged to climb trees. Tree climbing is small primate survival behavior. They were taught if they were threatened by an animal or person, to climb as high in a tree as they could.
