Hued is a daily game in the vein of Wordle/Spelling Bee where you have three guesses to match a target color.

It's hard to adjust it quite right, but I ended up at 78%. This game reminds me a LOT of Hues and Cues.

Yeah maybe the controls work better on a phone? But at any rate, I did hit 100% on my third guess so...

Hey Caroline and Jesse! I’m Jacob, the creator of Hued. Thanks for giving it a try! I just launched it in June (we’re on Puzzle 22) and have been tweaking things daily based on feedback. If you'd like to share what was difficult for you on the game controls, I'd love to spend some time trying to fix it. No worries if not. Thanks!

Jesse R.

Hey Jacob - The issue for me was that at least on Safari on MacOS 15.5 the swiping detection seemed pretty erratic - it would take multiple attempts clicking and dragging before it would recognize a swipe (maybe I'm doing it wrong?), then the color would continue to change as long as the mouse button was pressed even when not moving the pointer. Hopefully that gives you something to check out, or at least document a bit better if it turns out I was just doing it wrong!

That's really helpful, Jesse. I'll investigate those specs over the weekend and hopefully can get to the bottom of it and push a fix. Thanks for taking the time to share your gameplay experience. It's incredibly valuable!

Yes! So much like Hues and Cues, which we I love. This is great. Got to 91%, which felt good :)

Fwiw: I did it on an old iOS and also thought holding down was the way to scroll (for some reason I also expected it to be a 2D color space I could tap on the screen at various points to “jump” to certain areas of the color field) but figured it out after a sec. I did find scrolling erratic though, so once I was in the general ballpark, single taps (RLUD) felt like the way to go.

Thanks for the feedback, Sara! I pushed a new update late last night that hopefully makes the controls smoother and easier. Also, a quick tip: if you need to nudge the hue or saturation, you can press the crosshairs at the bottom left to turn on Fine-Tune Mode :)

Appreciate you trying it out and sharing our experience!

44% on Taxi, 😞. Still a fun idea! Feedback: My instinct was to swipe, swipe, swipe and then hold the end of the motion to do a slow and fine search. Instead it treated the held press as fast forward which was the opposite of my intention. Also, did I miss the input for Lightness? I saw left/right = Hue and up/down = Saturation.

Thanks for the trying it, John! It's interesting that your instinct was to hold for a slow/fine search. I'm still making adjustments to controls to try to improve smoothness (especially on desktop), so I definitely appreciate the feedback. If you press the crosshair at the bottom left, you can activate fine-tune mode where the controls become much more controlled.

Also, Lightness is locked as a constant every day to help reduce the number of color possibilities from millions to thousands :)

I don't understand the left-right controls. I'm on a PC and pulling the circle to the left doesn't cycle through colors, instead if I pull to the left and leave the cursor still in one place the circle moves through a bunch of colors even when holding the cursor still. Maybe I'm not understanding the mechanics of this... I thought dragging left and right would be moving the circle across a series of colors.

Jacob Tippett

Hi Kapuku! What PC device and browser are you using? I'll see if I can replicate the issue so I can work toward a fix. The controls "should" allow you to drag the circle left or right to adjust the hue and up and down to adjust the saturation. It is only suppose to made adjustments when you are actively clicking and dragging.

I'll look into this ASAP!

I had a dickens of a time adjusting color. I got to the yellows and boom! the color advanced right past that area. I had no fine selection control. Seemingly, other colors did not have that issue. I could scroll leisurely through red—which I did not want. LOL

Jacob Tippett

Hi enbeecee, thanks for playing and for your feedback :)

Your experience with the circle jumping past yellow is something I'm working hard to fix! Yellow occupies a relatively narrow band in the hue wheel, so small movements can cause dramatic shifts. Check back in a week or two and hopefully I'll have it sorted by then!

In the meantime, try using Fine-Tune Mode (by pressing the crosshair icon) and you should be able to dial in your guess with more precision.

Thanks again. – Jacob
