I saw Sinners last night (fantastic!) and loved reading Karen Attiah’s piece, ‘Sinners’ is a Black Challenge to White Christianity. Eagerly accepting recommendations for what else to watch/read/listen to about this film.

It’s not a critical analysis of the movie, but director Ryan Coogler geeking out about film types and aspect ratios is pretty great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Ru62uFM0s

Ugh... I heavily dislike horror films, but everyone is talking about it and I feel like I am missing out.

I really do not like horror films either. Sinners has horror elements, but they are in service of the story and not just cheap scares.

I also do not like and actively avoid horror movies, but this has enough else in it that it almost reads as something else altogether.

I just saw it over the weekend and thought it was fantastic.

I had been avoiding all the articles that came out at its release since I knew I was going to see it eventually and now I'm looking for all the best articles as well.

There was such an interesting element about choosing religion or culture and that sequence around the music coming from ancient times and extending into the future was masterful.

Enjoyed the NYT Popcast discussion on the film, as it relates to genre. I'll listen to anything with Wesley Morris.

If you are interested in a little of Ryan Coogler's life story he was recently on Marc Maron's podcast.
