What a grave error.
There are ways to use computer-controlled sandblasting to execute a digital design on stone. Looks very much like this, including a typeface choice that no stonecutter would use. There are a lot of expert stonecutters remaining in the world!
It's not often that kerning makes headlines. Well, when you think about it, kerning makes all headlines. Anyway, we live in weird times (new roman).

I've seen commentary (on social media, so not sure about the sources) that says this is intentional. It seems extremely odd otherwise.
