I love this interactive visualization by The Pudding of the shared DNA of music (i.e. how “borrowed beats, loaned lyrics, and multipurpose melodies” are passed down through generations of music, from Edvard Grieg (1876) to Tupac).

On a similar note @kexp.bsky.social is doing a whole week of programming connecting one song to the next (like six degrees of Kevin Bacon). Also check out Larry Mizell Jr’s OG Thursdays where he digs deep into one artist and all their connections
This is really cool, but my god it seems criminal not to mention the unbelievable influence of the Amen Break in all of this. It’s everywhere. Whole genres of music exist because of those 6 seconds of sound.
