I am catching up on what happened in season one of The Last of Us by watching and reading recaps. Season 2 starts tonight on HBO & Max at 9pm ET.

Did anyone watch last night? Perhaps I am just unfamiliar with the behavior of young people who live in broken worlds (entirely likely), but I found Ellie's reckless & obnoxious behavior to be implausible and unpleasant, to the point where I almost turned it off. (This was also my main complaint about season one.)

How has she survived the last five years acting like this? She should either be dead or ostracized from her small community. Everyone in her life seems to have an unending reserve of patience for her shit (why?) and I just don't buy it.

Oh and no spoilers about the video games...I have not played them.

As someone who *has* played the video games (and more than once - highly recommended), I'll say that the TV show version of Ellie has a more rebellious streak than her video game counterpart.

With that said, Ellie is a primary playable character in Part II, and this does likely help build some empathy for her. In addition, the nonlinear structure of the game throws some flashbacks into her story arc that offer a lot more context for her attitude and behaviour. I'm guessing some of those will come, and I'll suggest it's worth the while to stick it out.
