My favorite Kilmer role was Doc Holliday in Tombstone โ I was just telling my son about this movie the other day.

It's tough to match; Kilmer always brought an undercurrent of insouciance to his roles that vibrated in precise harmony with Tombstone's Doc Holliday.
I can't tell you how many times I've responded to folks with "I'm your huckleberry." Some get it, some don't. I probably subconsciously use it as a gauge. Heh.
One of my favs is The Saint. So many roles in one. Underrated as a movie.
Second Tombstone. RIP VK.
Real Genius. A classic
I love it so much. I think about it every time the amazing Everybody Wants to Rule the World comes on. Or whenever I eat popcorn. I'm going to rewatch it in his honor.
Chuck Klosterman's profile of Val Kilmer is weirdly hard to find online, but it's anthologized in a few print collections and is well worth your time if you're inclined to track it down.
Real Genius is a landmark in my life. It showed me that there were other kinds of nerds, and that a life of all science & no philosophy was no way to live. It also taught me that you can confuse a bully by saying to them, "there are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing."
Also his autobiography is amazing. He made all those shirts himself for Real Genius. He auditioned as Chris Knight to the producers, Method-improv style.
Such a tremendously underrated (maybe not underrated, but overlooked?) actor.
A shout out for Willow. Such a great movie and it really holds up. I watched it with my niece a few years ago and she loved it. She thought Madmartigan was the coolest.
Loved Willow! Was wondering if it held up. Will look to rewatch it.

This is the name that'll be displayed next to comments you make on kottke.org; your email will not be displayed publicly. I'd encourage you to use your real name (or at least your first name and last initial) but you can also pick something that you go by when you participate in communities online. Choose something durable and reasonably unique (not "Me" or "anon"). Please don't change this often. No impersonation.
Note: I'm letting folks change their display names because the membership service that kottke.org uses collects full names and I thought some people might not want their names displayed publicly here. If it gets abused, I might disable this feature.
If you feel like this comment goes against the grain of the community guidelines or is otherwise inappropriate, please let me know and I will take a look at it.
