I mean I get that the Google images weren’t ideal but it still left a bad taste in my mouth that there seemed to be so much zeal (this article included) on beating up on “wokism” as if they were just waiting for the right opportunity.

The whole way that the term “woke,” which was meant to convey the process of awakening to the realities of structural racism, has been co-opted to be some sort of insult has been so disheartening. Why is it any time there is an attempt to have real conversations about injustices in the world the powers that be shoot back with ridicule and scorn? I mean, I guess I know exactly why. But it doesn’t mean we have to fall for it.
