My grandfather belonged to the International Ladies Garment Workers union, which was run for many years by a guy named David Dubinsky. When Dubinsky died in the early 1980s, his obituary in our newspaper was accompanied by a photo of Dubinsky giving a speech to a small group of union members. My father took one look at the photo and said, “That’s pop.”
