the author of the piece says they only do one thing well - but this is not quite true! I actually more regularly use mine to make pita and naan bread, for both of which it is fantastic.
I’ve had an ooni for three years. I used to call it a pizza maker, but this is far from the truth. It’s a pizza oven. I am the pizza maker. The oven is amazing. Gets up to 900 degrees and cooks a pizza in 90 seconds. But don’t think it’s easy. Like anything, the more you use it, the better you get. And cook8ng for groups adds pressure. And then there is the wormhole of making your own dough. My personal heaven is down at the jersey shore. My sister has a house the is 4 doors down from a pizzeria that sells me ready made dough that is the perfect diameter, elasticity, fermentation. In the summer, I’m a pizza factory. Every afternoon making pizza snacks for the guests. Back at home in the suburbs, I’m just a regular sh nook.
My mother grew up down the block from Lombardi's. I have to wonder what she would think of the Ooni.
I was quite content with my regular oven pizza steel method a la kenji, but the new house has very sensitive smoke detectors. An Ooni is on the Christmas list!
I have had an Ooni since it was an Uuni and made way too much pizza in lockdown. It gave me a sincere appreciation for effort needed to make a good pizza and how hard it is to make any changes to your process. I can get okay pizza near me, but when I want better pizza, I make it myself. It is a super fun party when you start the pizza making, but you cannot get distracted when the oven is 900F!

This is the name that'll be displayed next to comments you make on kottke.org; your email will not be displayed publicly. I'd encourage you to use your real name (or at least your first name and last initial) but you can also pick something that you go by when you participate in communities online. Choose something durable and reasonably unique (not "Me" or "anon"). Please don't change this often. No impersonation.
Note: I'm letting folks change their display names because the membership service that kottke.org uses collects full names and I thought some people might not want their names displayed publicly here. If it gets abused, I might disable this feature.
If you feel like this comment goes against the grain of the community guidelines or is otherwise inappropriate, please let me know and I will take a look at it.
