Merve Emre converses with Sally Rooney about novels, Intermezzo, games, and religion. “Throughout my work, rather than writing about characters, I write about dynamics.” (That’s why I love her books.)

I haven’t read her other books, but Intermezzo is so good I feel the need to go back and read them all now. I have been stopped by two people on the street so far who wanted to talk about how much they loved her books. I can’t recall the last time strangers have been so excited about a book I am carrying.
