Silberman's husband posted this to Bluesky this morning:
What a really interesting guy Steve was. An ear for music, literature and science. He was kind spirited, curious and really a brilliant guy.
He said he lived a “double life” as “interestingly weird,” saying his science writing “pays the rent,” while his Grateful Dead writing “certainly does not pay the rent but is fun and allows me to listen to a lot of music that I loved seeing when I was a kid.”
Thoughts to his friends and family.
Tragic news, came as a complete surprise. He was a great colleague (at Wired) a wonderful friend, and an endless supporter of both me and so many others in this world. Wise, experienced in so many wide-ranging things, and just the best human.
Every time I saw a post of his online I was always impressed. Great writer, short and long.
Will be missed. Great thinker and kind spirit.
