As an experiment, The Pudding used an LLM (Claude) to produce one of their data-driven, visual stories. “Do we feel replaceable? In short, not right now.”

Having went through this exact process dozens of times in a professional setting, The Pudding was being generous with their grades. The "giddiness" wears off, and the overall literalness of the AI (lack of basic critical thought, which forces you to have to spend tons of time on prompt engineering), the hallucinations it creates (bad information in the responses), and the low quality code and text it returns makes it not worth its time. I've used GPT3, GPT3.5, various versions of GPT4, and various iterations of Claude.
