These critters are so charismatic! One of ours at the Arnold Arboretum bloomed last month, and people went bananas for it. They're closely related to skunk cabbage, which is ubiquitous in the damp spots of small urban wilds, so we can see a version of this phenomenon in miniature every spring, at least in the eastern US (there's a related plant in the PNW, which is prettier).
