The myth about cars that’s hurting cities. “In study after study in city after city around the world, researchers have found that merchants exaggerate the share of patrons who arrive by car and undercount those who walk, bike, or ride transit.”

The wealthy little suburban Silicon Valley town-let next door to us has been aggressively closing restaurant parklets. Word on the street is that local merchants are screaming at the city council because little old ladies that complain about everything were whining that they can't park right in front of the store. This in a town that all but rolls up the sidewalks promptly at eight pm every night.
Meanwhile our town's council voted to make the pandemic closure of the main downtown street permanent. We're finally going to have the pedestrian mall they almost built in 1989, only 35 years late.
