Wes Anderson’s Montblanc Commercial

Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman, and Wes Anderson star in an Anderson-directed commercial for Montblanc pens. You know the drill: it’s twee, it’s charming, it’s art-directed to within an inch of its life. Me personally? I love it.

I think I’ve only seen Wes Anderson act in this and his AMEX commercial, and he’s not bad! I’m surprised he hasn’t given himself more cameos over the years.

he's so charming as an actor, but seeing him act, i do think he's got a knack for getting actors to perform as close to his acting style as they can

When they sit down to write, there’s an empty seat on the left of the frame — as though inviting the viewer to join them. Nice touch.

Yes, but you must be quite tall to sit there.

Lovely to see Wes on the other side of the camera.

I'm a big Wes Anderson fan and have felt a lot of the misgivings that people ding him for about over-aestheticizing everything, BUT credit where credit is due: he really doesn't take himself too seriously. If you think of M. Gustav in Grand Budapest as a kind of stand-in for Anderson, he's lovingly caricatured in a way that makes me think Anderson is aware of what he's doing and is just enjoying it.

I don't understand why people get so upset about his style. You know exactly what you're going to get and I love that.

"This isn't a Mont Blanc, what the hell is this?" 🤣
