This is a tangent, but it turns out that the intersection of trainspotting and eclipse watching is a thing. YouTuber "Jaw Tooth" is one of a tribe who travel to spots along the path of totality where they're likely to see a train come by; in this video, the train comes into view at about 2:54.
Another YouTuber, "Millenniumforce," also went trainsunspotting in Ohio.
And the train we saw arriving in Barton, VT, at the moment of totality actually hit a few cars parked too close to the tracks (there was an injury, described as minor; there is no footage of the crash in the link)—some guys in the crowd who said they worked for the railroad had speculated this would happen, and they were correct.
(The videos are primarily of sociological interest—not mind-blowing.)
OMG, that first trainspotter video is amazing — standing there while a total eclipse happens and he points the camera at the train the entire time! And then after the train passes and the eclipse is still at totality, he's filming the light on a shack next to the tracks! Incredible focus.
