I don't think there could be a greater disconnect between how much I enjoy this film, and how much the actors have basically disavowed it. I think I read somewhere that Ed Harris won't even mention it. It guess it was an awfully brutal shoot.
That said, I once got a question to Eric Idle in a Reddit AMA about Baron Munchausen, another favorite, and he said he would rather go back to boarding school than make that film again, so I guess I super enjoy it when actors are actually suffering? 🤷🏻♂️
Whenever The Abyss remaster comes up, I always run through three thoughts:
I wish I could secure tickets now so I won't forget, which I will because I know me.
Tickets go on sale on Nov 20; put it in your calendar!
There is a documentary, UNDER PRESSURE: MAKING 'THE ABYSS', which documents the unbelievable rigors of the shoot.
I can not find tickets on sale anywhere or any theaters listed as showing this film.

This is the name that'll be displayed next to comments you make on kottke.org; your email will not be displayed publicly. I'd encourage you to use your real name (or at least your first name and last initial) but you can also pick something that you go by when you participate in communities online. Choose something durable and reasonably unique (not "Me" or "anon"). Please don't change this often. No impersonation..
Note: I'm letting folks change their display names because the membership service that kottke.org uses collects full names and I thought some people might not want their names displayed publicly here. If it gets abused, I might disable this feature.
If you feel like this comment goes against the grain of the community guidelines or is otherwise inappropriate, please let me know and I will take a look at it.
