Bernie Goetz is running for public advocate on a platform of vegetarianism and, uh, squirrels. Goetz shot four youths who tried to rob him on the NYC subway in 1984. (Is this campaign for real?)

This campaign is very real. Bernie had been a guest on a satellite radio talk show several times in the past year and spoke openly about his bid for mayor.

i'd suggest that he has a great chance of winning. if people don't do a lot of research before they vote, they might select the name that they recognize. unless of course they remember why they recognize this name.

Okay, if its for real then my next question is: Is he serious with that platform?

"INSTANT RUNOFF VOTING is a superior system."

He ran for Mayor in 2001 and received 1049 votes (PDF) in the general election.

I'm vegetarian, and I'm still confused as to how vegetarianism promotes less bullying? Hmm.
Funny man. We just don't get people like him running for anything in the UK! Love the squirrels though :)
