Good thing too as it reinforces the fact that Glasgow is the "secret capital" of music, but will it be a good thing for them or the proverbial "kiss of death" like so many others

There is indeed an awful lot of good scottish music out there these days.

ack...Gang of Four lite

The couldn't deserve it more. The album is great and they are superb live - no fuss, no messing, just a really good gig.

Could this band be just a little more overrated ? And they beat out the Streets ? Ugh.

Yay for Scotland - even if claiming Snow Patrol is a bit much (they're just happen to live in Glasgow). Franz Ferdinand thoroughly deserve this though, cracking album and their appearance at T in the Park (Scottish music festival) was one of the highlights of my weekend.
All in a great list too - still not sure about Amy Winehouse though.. and Belle and Sebastian remain the great undiscovered band of our time.

My favorite Scottish group: Boards of Canada. Thank you, Scotland.

Yeah, but The Streets album wasn't as good as the first, I thought. Saw B&S a month or so back; they are indeed very very good. But Franz Ferdinand are deserving winners, so no complaints here.

Sigh ... all too young to remember Gang of Four then.
A Brief History of the Twentieth Century is a decent enough compilation.
This page at Amazon has some 30 second clips, have a listen to At Home He's a Tourist
and Not Great Men and you'll hear the similarity. Gang of Four were a little more overtly political in nature though.

Basically, yes. Too young - though I was alive at the time (I'm 32).

'Take me out' has one of the best "intros that have nothing to do with the main melody" in rock history...

I actually have Entertainment!, actually. Calling Franz Ferdinand Gang Of Four-lite is a bit like calling Interpol Joy Division-lite; sure, there's an influence, but the descendant bands also have their own thing going on.
