Email your loved ones after The Rature has occurred. “After the rapture, there will be a lot of speculation as to why millions of people have just disappeared”

"..for God so loved the world, he created an email database of believers."

Who sends the email on the first Friday after the Rapture? A temp non-believer?

dooceDec 24, 2003 at 12:13PM

This is just the best remaindered link ever. I suspect I will be getting, like, at least a hundred of these emails the first Friday after The Rapture has occured.

NazDec 24, 2003 at 12:51PM

When is this going down again? Of course they don't tell you. Sneaky.

I think you left out a P in rapture up there.

AdamDec 24, 2003 at 2:00PM

I think the P was left out intentionally. Jason is referring to the "Rature," a lesser-known event, when all faithful rodents will ascend to heaven.

R.Dec 24, 2003 at 2:18PM

Isn't that a Don Bluth movie?

Swami PremDec 24, 2003 at 2:30PM

Yes, if the Rapture goes down like this, then who will initiate the program to send out all these emails? The program responding isn't smart enough to know if the Rapture has taken place.

This is undoubtedly one of the stupidest propaganda ploys I've ever witnessed.

jamieDec 24, 2003 at 2:52PM

No, only the true believers will ascend to heaven at the Ra(p)ture. The rest of us sinners will remain here for about 7 years to live out the Tribulation, which I assume will be televised by CNN.

The key is these guys have to hire avowed non-believers and sinners for there IT department to make sure the emails are sent out.

as a software designer, i'd work the program like this: every friday, a chron job is run the sends me an email. if i don't respond to the email within oh, 2 days, the computer assumes that the rapture has occured and triggers the rest of the cascade. of course, this assumes that i've been taken up to heaven- but i guess even if i'm "left behind", i'd still notice that millions of people had been taken up, and therefore, i could just trigger it manually. so take that, non-believers!

"if i don't respond to the email within oh, 2 days, the computer assumes that the rapture has occured and triggers the rest of the cascade"

Dude, I'll be the first to try severing your connections :)

On a serious note, I bet someone has already worked out how to do such things like 'secure authorization' or whatever for nuclear launches and the like (need multiple entities authorizing but can work if someone's not in contact).

shaunDec 24, 2003 at 4:28PM

Maybe they already know when it's going to happen and just have the emails on a timer. I'm sure if you read the bible carefully enough it tells you the exact date. I believe "Surely I come quickly" was Jesus' quote so I it can't be too far away now.

But what if you sign up to have your Rapture emails delivered and it turns out you're not actually as true a believer as you thought and don't get to go? Wouldn't THAT be embarassing--hard to show your face again after bragging to everyone you know that you're in heaven and they're not.

danDec 24, 2003 at 4:55PM

Maybe it has already happened, like, before this emailing system was even set up?

These spammers get their email addresses in the most creative ways now don't they?

AdamDec 27, 2003 at 12:55AM

At least it wasn't about the "rupture." No one wants to be notified when that happens.

spygeekDec 31, 2003 at 6:41PM

Just for info's sake, this article explains how the owner of the site (Scott Butcher) will send out the letters after the event. Mainly, if he fails to reset the program regularly, it will assume he's been "raptured" and send them out automatically. Amusing, since he doesn't even have electricity at his house.
