I was actually apphalled....I expected that from Madonna (cause of her past) and I sure as hell expected that from Christina (cause she just did a total 360) but Britney I am totally grossed out about. My comments will probably make everyone angry here. First of all, I'm probably old enough to be your mother and maybe even someone's young grandmother. This infamous kiss was absolutely unnecessary and downright sinful. Here we have Madonna, a married woman and mother of 2 young children. Here we have Britney, a pop star who is idolized and imulated by almost every young, white American girl, age 9-20, sending out a message that it's cool to tongue another woman on national tv. I could have stomached Ellen DeGeneres and Rosy O'Donnell tonguing better than these two icons. Such moral decay and young Americans just don't get it. It's like everything is okay and it's not! And while I'm at it, entertainers "THANK GOD" on stage for getting their awards, it makes me sick. God is no where near this arena, with the nakedness, the cursing, the disrepect for women, God has way more important things to do. The Kiss. It was outstanding. It was rehearesed and planned well in advance. The ladies got the desired effect and all the little people are really about to come unglued. Easy there, boys. Don't you realize when your chain is being jerked? What is “HOT” about a feeble attempt to generate publicity to overshadow a lack in talent? The only ones impressed were the teenagers and anyone else without a life. All things aside, lets focus on the results of the kiss, and forget about the fact that Christina Aguilera was in on this too.

MTV depends on this kind of material to promote their awards shows. By Madonna and Britney kissing, MTV now has tons of material to show the world how 'exciting' their programming is, providing valuable publicity material.

Britney, without an album or single release in a little while, needs to get back in newspapers and the minds of her young fanbase. By participating in the kiss, she has tons of promotional material for her album release in November and is already on the minds of critics and fans.

Madonna has always depended on shock value to promote her image. A few years back, she even stated in an interview (and I don't know the quote verbatim) that she wasn't the best singer but she was the best "entertainer" in the business. However, seeing how her new album failed to sell, this kiss was important to push her relevancy upon the younger generation of music buyers.

Judging by the results, the kiss was a success. Though I enjoyed the Madonna-Christina one much more...

I think that the kiss looked good. That is a purely subjective opinion. I cannot know why they did, but keep it coming! I am not actually bothered about the "why" and "how". On the one hand, it was a spontanious display of affection, on the other a purley manipulative exercise in publicity. Noone here appears to have inside information as to why they kissed, but they did: and it looked damn hot! Some of the comments earlier suggest that because it was on the TV, young, impressionable people will run out and agree that kissing girls is "OK". Isn't it interesting that, while acts of female homosexuality have been normalised, acts of male homosexuality are still considered by the majority to be disgusting.

True, this was a bold publicity stunt, but the only reason it has so much impact is because the majority of us make such a big deal out of something we've all probably done before. I don't know about the States, but as a young person from where I live, I would say that more than half of young girls have experiemented by kissing their friends (amongst other things).

As for the Christian view, I can imagine that you are all very shocked at the Britney-Madonna kiss, but in the end, your moral opposition is merely your interpretation of an old script. I have a few comments about this subject. First of all, I think that neither heterosexuals or homosexuals (male or female) should tongue kiss each other. If you are going to kiss, then please either kiss on the cheek or make it a very quick closed-mouth kiss on the mouth. Tongue kissing is also gross and it spreads too many germs.

I also wish that all of these religious people would stop quoting the Bible when they write something negative about people kissing someone else of the same sex. The thing that kills me is that too many religious people have not even read enough of the Bible to know what it says about homosexuals. Try reading Ezekiel 16:49. As far as people kissing people of the same sex on the cheek or on the mouth, the Bible doesn't prohibit it but this is assuming that you don't tongue kiss each other. Try reading all of the verses about the holy kiss which was frequently done between members of the same sex during the days of the early church. The verses are Luke 7:45, Romans 16:16, 1 Peter 5:14, 1 Thessalonians 5:26, 1 Corinthians 16:20, and 2 Corinthians 13:12 in the New Testament. Proverbs 24:26 says the following: "Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer." King David and Jonathan kissed each other in 1 Samuel 20:41 and they also held each other's hands in another verse. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure where that verse is written in the Bible. 11 Kings 5:18 mentions two men holding hands and there are many other verses in both the Old and New Testaments that mention two men or two women kissing, hugging each other, or holding hands with each other. One of them is in Ruth. If you think that the Old Testament is no longer valid, then please read Matthew 5: 17-19 and tell everyone what you think about this subject. You should also read John 13:23-25 and John 21:20. I'm not a religious person because I'm an atheist. However, I realize that everyone should know about this subject if they are going to quote the Bible when they complain about anyone they either know is gay or that they mistakenly think is gay. Why do you want to complain about two people of the same sex kissing each other, hugging each other and/or holding hands? This is what the Bible demands that you do with people of the same sex but it doesn't say that you have to have sex with them! As for me personally, I kiss other women the way it is mentioned in Proverbs 24:26 and I also kiss on the cheek. We also hug and hold hands and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. People should grow up and not waste any time getting upset about this because it is silly to get mad about it!

We all know that an event which Heat magazine describes as shocking, scandalous or ‘a historic pop moment’ (Heat 6-12 September 2003) can be something as mundane as a C-list celebrity’s thong being momentarily visible as she climbs into a taxi outside the Met Bar. But if that same event makes it onto both the Evening Standard and the headlines of BBC News 24, one would assume that it was something a little more newsworthy. One would be wrong. The event I’m referring to is Madonna’s performance of her single ‘Hollywood’ at the Video Music Awards at the end of August.

The 45-year-old mother of two built her career on catchy pop tunes, a highly individual sense of style and the ability to shock. However with the gradual but undeniable decline in the quality of her music and her credibility-destroying decision to sell her soul to The Gap, Madz has found herself left with what was always the least interesting thing about her- her reputation as the Queen of Shock. So, unable to rely on anyone’s interest in her outfit or the quality of her singing to get her into the papers, Madonna kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera live on stage. My God! Girls? Kissing girls? What a scandalous, shocking, erotic, thrilling taboo! How liberated, sexy and worthy of press attention these women are! Oh please. For once, Heat would have been justified in using the word ‘scandal’- but no-one seemed to be reporting the real scandal of just how offensive and shameless this desperate publicity-stunt was.

Please don’t think for a second that I have an issue with same-sex kissing, like those freaks who phoned up Channel Four to complain all those years ago when Beth Jordache got to snog her girlfriend on Brookie. On the contrary, it is as a bisexual woman that I find the incident so offensive.

There are plenty of prejudices bi women have to deal with: that their sexuality is somehow titillating to others; that their sexuality is not innate but experimental; that their sexuality is something that they have chosen in order to get attention. I can personally testify that these attitudes exist and I can personally testify that they hurt.

Madonna, Britney and Christina’s stunt enforces all of the myths above. The kissed to titillate, they kissed to appear experimental, and they kissed to get attention. To the best of my knowledge all three singers present themselves to the media as heterosexual. Whether they are straight, bi or gay is none of my business- is none of anyone’s business but their own. When people who are in the public eye, who are influential role-models for their fans and who like to present themselves as modern, liberated and open-minded individuals reinforce lazy prejudices and damaging ignorance, I do consider that to be my business. And I do consider that to be more than just a kiss.

Here are the Bible verses about same-sex kissing that I mentioned in my earlier post: Ruth 1:14 & 19. You should also read Acts 20:37 in the New Testament. Some Old Testament verses about same-sex kissing include Genesis 27:22-27, Genesis 31:28, Genesis 31:55, Genesis 45:15, Genesis 50:1, Exodus 4:14 & 19, 1 Samuel 10:1, 1 Kings 19:20, Psalms 2:12, Song Of Soloman 1:2, and Song Of Soloman 8:1.

Now I want to respond to Jennifer's comment about how this kiss between Britney Spears and Madonna was like a woman kissing her mother. Does Jennifer not realize that this was an open-mouthed kiss which is also called a french kiss? Since when on earth do women french kiss their own mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, female cousins, or their male relatives? The only thing that I can say about that idea is Ew! It isn't normal to kiss your relatives this way! Remember what I wrote in my first post. You should either kiss someone on the cheek or else give then a very quick closed mouth kiss on the mouth. I have a comment for RokitDog. I read on another website that Justin Timberlake didn't hate or dislike these women kissing each other. In fact, he said that he thinks that it is sexy.
