Actually, the Pritzker Prize is more often thought of as the "architecture nobel", but Rem won that one in 2000...

Rem is incredibly cool and thoughtful. I don't know what the Praemium Imperiale is (sounds like a beer) but he definitely deserves any and all awards he gets.

Hey Greg, could you explain your "arggh" a bit? Is it just that Koolhaas is overrated or is it his approach or does he just suck in general?

True about the Pritzker, the PI is given by the Emperor of Japan; they were instituted pretty recently (more recently than the Pritzker) and intended as arts Nobels.
As for Koolhaas, I swear by his Delirious New York, which is an incredible book. Lately, I've gotten weary of his schtick, though, and the whole rockstar architect phenomenon he epitomizes. The weariness breaks down as: Rem himself (20%), press and accolades (80%).
