Ipoh sucks! No, the whole northeastern region of the Malay Peninsula sucks! A particular state in those parts is governed by a fundamentalist party.. they would prefer the state to match the conditions in Afganistan when Al-Queda ruled. Be elsewhere when you're in Malaysia.

It's a good thing we live in a much more enlightened society.

it's a silly law enforced by overzealous officials in the town. it generated a little bit of a furore, and thankfully, they're now doing something against it.

I'm a resident of Ipoh and FYI it's not located in the northeastern states of Malaysia "governed by a fundamentalist party". Ipoh is in the state of Perak on the west coast of the peninsular and not run by a fundamentalist party. I won't go into the politics of our nation but I can tell you that not all Malaysians are Muslim fundamentalists looking to transform it into another Afghanistan.
Besides, this hand-holding issue IS a silly thing and locals are all against it, and are lobbying to abolish the bylaw. Read the news on our local daily, The Star.
