Trailer for Season Two of The Rings of Power
I am apparently one of the few people who really liked the first season of the Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Rings of Power. I mean, it had its rough spots and maybe there was a little too much table-setting, but in general it left me wanting to see what was going to happen next. The trailer for season two just dropped and it looks pretty action-packed and stocked with characters & events that would be familiar to those who have read the main book series. Here’s the synopsis:
Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.

The trilogy and hobbit are staples of my childhood and I enjoyed all of the Peter Jackson films… but the wave of negativity surrounding the release of the Amazon project kept me from viewing.
Is the less than enthusiastic response by the “critical community” similar to that of Phantom Menace Star Wars “immune response”?
They were not ground breaking… but I still found a way to enjoy them (though rarely dive in for a rewatch). They were laden with exposition and merchandising opps… but, still, I never had the revulsion that many of my cohort did.
I loved the books as a kid, my wife loved the animated movies. We watched the first season, and though I had minor quibbles like you (and some nerd ones, like an early Balrog), I've been looking forward to the next season. I liked seeing much of this world come alive in ways I never thought anyone would touch.
Count me among those who enjoyed tRoP. It was visually very pleasing, and the story elements all seemed to mesh. I can't rightly say it was memorable, but I rated it above both the GRRM and Robert Jordan adaptations that were on concurrently.
Me, too. As someone who grew up on Conan, Beastmaster, and Krull, when I hear/read the complaining I want to yell, "But we're getting a f#$%^ LOTR TV show, you guys!!!"

I quite liked it too! I'm more concerned about this "Hunt for Gollum" movie...
